BIO
At just ten years old, ElJay Williams Jr. discovered the power of his voice. During an elementary school talent show in Kansas City, Missouri, he delivered his own Michael Jackson–inspired rendition of “Climb Every Mountain.” In that moment, something clicked, not only for the audience of classmates and teachers hearing him sing publicly for the first time, but for ElJay himself. He knew he was meant to perform.

Raised in Kansas City on 49th and Michigan, ElJay’s grandparents’ home became the creative foundation where his artistry began to flourish. As one of many talented grandchildren, he often gathered his cousins to stage musical performances and create makeshift choirs for their family. Even at a young age, it was clear he possessed a rare musical instinct. ElJay could hear harmonies, arrange parts for each cousin, and write songs and scripts, some of which he still keeps today. His creativity and leadership naturally set him apart.

While many children imagined careers in traditional professions, ElJay had already decided his path would be in performance. His early years were filled with artistic exploration. He played drums in his church for years, sang in youth choir, and earned first chair in elementary school orchestra. By middle school, he was involved in choir, drill team, dance and even early-stage writing, further developing the artistry that would define his future career.

That momentum carried through high school, where ElJay participated in choir, drama club, and even served as assistant choreographer for the cheerleading team. During this time, he also spent a period studying at The Los Angeles School of the Arts, expanding his exposure to professional performance training.

When asked by a mentor what he planned to do after graduation, ElJay’s answer was simple:
“I just want to find a job that pays me to perform.” Encouraged to pursue higher education as a foundation for his dreams, he attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff on a four-year choir scholarship. While there, he majored in Journalism and double-minored in both Theater and Music — blending performance, storytelling, and communication into a multifaceted creative skill set.
During his college years, ElJay experienced a pivotal moment in his career when he won a televised competition on the CW Network, earning his first recording contract with On the Rise Productions. The opportunity gave him a glimpse of the professional music industry and validated the gift he had carried since childhood. However, after the deal collapsed due to poor management and planning, the experience left him disillusioned with music.

Stepping away from the industry for nearly a decade, ElJay took time to rediscover his passion. When he returned, he reintroduced himself to the world under a new identity: The Artist ElJay — a name that represents his commitment to being more than a singer. He is an artist who expresses his story through music, dance, acting, fashion, and visual storytelling.

Since his independent debut in 2018 with his EP “Melody,” The Artist ElJay has steadily built a name for himself in the entertainment industry. His work has been featured across podcasts, blogs, and magazines, including the internationally recognized Music Connection Magazine (June/July 2021, Vol. 45).
Through collaborations with marketing firm Big Noise, his music has reached thousands of promoters and industry professionals, leading to performances across festivals, concerts, and major platforms — including appearances alongside artists such as Muni Long and Ginuwine.

His music has also received Recording Academy consideration for the 64th and 67th Grammy Awards in the Best R&B Performance category for songs including “I Need You,” “Drip’n,” and “Breathe.” These releases have generated more than 600,000 organic streams on Spotify, continuing to grow as his audience expands.

These achievements led to representation with Next Paige Agency (Kansas City) and Images Agency (St. Louis) for modeling and talent, further expanding his presence in fashion and entertainment.
To date, The Artist ElJay has released three EPs; Melody, Champion, and I Need You — along with several singles including “Don’t Stop the Beat,” “Party Ain’t a Party,” “Drip,” and “Breathe.” He has also co-produced multiple music videos and built a digital audience through YouTube performances that showcase his unique interpretations of popular songs.

Today, The Artist ElJay continues to evolve as a creative force. He is currently managed by Trammell & Associates / Iconic Worldwide Music / 4Cobb, with music distributed through EMPIRE Distribution. On the modeling and acting side, he is represented by The Helen Wells Agency.

Expanding beyond music, ElJay has also launched his first lifestyle product — Kingdom, an oil-based luxury fragrance that reflects the elegance and confidence at the heart of his brand.
From the living room performances of his childhood to stages across the country, The Artist ElJay’s journey is rooted in resilience, creativity, and an unwavering belief in purpose.

And for him, this is only the beginning.
